First leg, Weymouth to Yarmouth IOW via Portland Marina

Saturday, 23 November 2019 eventually dawned damp, dull and chilly.  This was our last chance for some time to take the boat to her new home at Haslar Marina near Gosport.  What with other commitments and the deteriorating weather, it was now or never.

We left the pontoon on time at 0740 hrs and motored around to the bridge to wait for it to lift at 0800 hrs.  This is something you have to book in advance and we would be very unpopular if the harbour master had opened the bridge and we didn't go through.  No-one else was up and around to come through so it was just us.  Bang on time and with the church chiming the hour, the bridge lifted and through we went.  All was calm and sleepy.  Unlike us.  I was full of nervous anticipation about how the boat would handle, whether we could safely moor it, how cold would it be on the water, how rough and a host of other unknowns ahead.

We would have headed straight for home but for the fact that we needed fuel so Sea Dweller took us to Portland Marina.

As we motored in and I prepared the mooring ropes at the bow, this gorgeous dolphin swam alongside, rolled onto his side and took a good look at me before shooting off to some other curiosity.  He's a resident at Portland marina; don't take my word for it, he has his own web page!

Mooring Sea Dweller was quite a nerve-wracking time.  Everything happens very quickly.  To complicate matters, the fuel hose was too short to reach the far side (she has two tanks) so Mark had to reverse out and then reverse in so that we could fill the starboard tank.  In the meantime, I'm crashing and running around the boat with fenders and ropes wishing that I had longer arms and bigger muscles.

We eventually left the fuel pontoon at 100o hours.
